Articles: a, an, the, and none
Urdu has no articles, so they are the most frequent error for Pakistani writers: missing where needed, added where not.
Rules with examples
A singular countable noun almost always needs an article (or another determiner like this, my, each).
Use 'the' when the reader knows which one you mean: already mentioned, unique, or specified.
No article for general plural or uncountable nouns.
'A' before consonant sounds, 'an' before vowel sounds. Sound, not spelling.
Fixed expressions: take notice, take action, take place, take steps (no 'the').
